20th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

Some of you may know that I got sick like hell prior to this event. I was actually in a go-no-go phase the day before 14th. But as I said, this kind of events doesn’t happen everyday plus, I was really eager to have a quick trip away from the busy city and from all the stress that comes with it, so yes, you can now guess what happened next.

I woke around 6 in the morning. We knew we couldn’t make it to the Hot Air Balloon Flight in the morning, coz it was too early for our body clock! So, we planned to catch the Hot Air Balloon Night Glow instead in the afternoon, and we did. Going back, Jhori fetched me around 7 AM while holding a bouquet in his other hand, coz you know, t’was VDay as well! I wasn’t really expecting the flowers because he was keen that he was on budget tight for the past few weeks. And you will surely agree with me when I say that simple surprises like this count a lot. Thank you!

We got into a bus going to Dau at Victory Liner Terminal in Cubao. From Dau, we stopped and looked for something to fill our hungry stomachs. We initially wanted to try out something different, foods that are not usually found in the metro, but we were so hungry that we had to look in a snap! What did we find? Chowking! After we ate, we rode a jeepney going to SM Clark – M Gate. Then rode another jeepney going to the Air Force City complex. Though we had to make another long walk to get into the exact venue. T’was freaking hot and we weren’t able to bring an umbrella, instant bilad it is! Hello there sunny Philippines!

The general admission ticket costs 350.00 Php per person. I guess the price is fair enough for all the things and activities you can witness inside. We took several photos upon entrance, photos with the Army, Navy, Air force, displayed aircraft, etc. Though I wasn’t as fascinated as Jhori, ‘coz I used to see a lot of those, during my internship in AFP back in college. It was pretty obvious he was enjoying the event as he was very pushy to take a pic of all the photo ops available. There were different shows and aircraft exhibitions that happened in the event, the tagline of this 20th Hot Air Balloon Fiesta tells something about everything that flies, so yes, I find it very relevant. The place is huuuuge! There were so many kites up there in various designs and colors. It was peaceful and relaxing to look at and I must admit, I’ve thought of flying my own kite too when I saw kites up in the air, but I was afraid it would just be a waste of time as I don’t know how to do it on my own. Or maybe Jhori can? I don’t know. I did not even bother asking. haha!

It was a right decision to eat food prior to coming into the venue because the foods inside the field are pricey. And since we weren’t really hungry that time, we opt to buy some refreshers instead, my favorite lemon juice!

Meet Mr. Camel! As much as I love animals, I really don’t like seeing them on this kind of setup. They must be somewhere else, and not in a place like this, you know, their natural habitat. But t’was nice meeting you Mr. Camel, same with your buddy camel out there. Both of you are oh-so-adorable!

I told you earlier, the weather was really hot! We had to look for a decent place to kill some time while we wait until the sun to set. Lucky that there’s a coffee shop nearby where we can stay and chill, but, even this place was jam-packed for the same reason we had. We waited until there’s a vacant table we can share. We stayed there for a couple of hours while regenerating our energy for the next coming shows.

One of the reasons why we waited until early evening was to witness the much awaited Hot Air Balloon Night Glow. I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I wasn’t satisfied with how it turned out. Of course, I have to acknowledge the windy weather that might be one of the reasons. But still, I was not satisfied. There were a lot of balloons that they weren’t able to inflate completely (those were the character balloons which can be more appealing than that of the ordinary ones), then the other balloons that are already upright started to fall and deflate. Not to mention that it took them a long while to try to inflate all the balloons. It would have been better if we woke up earlier and watched the Hot Air Balloon Flight in the morning instead. But yea, it happened. I was disappointed that I had to tell Jhori to just leave early even if it wasn’t finished yet. We ate dinner and got home around 11 PM.

Overall, it was still a fun day for us. We were both happy to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a different way this year. I also felt really dizzy on our way home that I was able to sleep the moment I lay down to bed that day.

  • Same here! I was quite disappointed with HAB Night Glow. I think there’s only one hot air balloon that flew. I thought I’ll be seeing them all flying with lights 🙁 But all in all, I still had fun. Hope to attend it again next year! And hope to see you there!

    • Seems like a lot got disappointed din pala. Yes, I saw only one balloon that flew too. The experience would have been better if all the balloons were successfully inflated. But yes, I still enjoyed! It’s not everyday that we get to see huuuge balloons like that. I hope too!

  • I’ve always wanted to attend this event. Must be magical to witness.

    • It is! This is a yearly event, I believe. You can still attend next year. 🙂

  • Aww I feel your disappointment Dianne! :/ But glad you both had fun still! Btw, what camera are you using?

    • Good thing Jhori wasn’t disappointed at all so, I was able to move on quickly. haha! Yep, we really did! Those photos were taken using Canon eos M3 🙂

Eto yung update na lage kong inaabangan newfeed ko. And ganda kasi :’) Sana ma witness ko next time Haha By the way, (same question) what camera are you using Ate Dianne?

    • Yes! Nakikita ko lang din to from previous years. It’s different pala when you see it live. But I bet it would have been waaaay better if we watched the morning show din. Sayang! I was using Canon eos M3 for those shots. 🙂

I’ve read another blogpost about this and looking at the event based on the blogpost, medyo hindi ako naghinayang na di ako nagpunta, kasi parang feeling ko di pala namin maeenjoy hehe

We planned to go but we didn’t push through because sobrang aga haha and I know na sa umaga lang yung balloons and sa gabi, at ayoko magpaabot ng gabi so di na kami tumuloy haha tska KJ si gerald sa mga booths at photo ops nako hahahaha

Maybe I’d go here if I’ll be with friends nalang. Maybe next year!

Ganda ng photos, mukhang you’re satisfied! Feel na feel ang portraits. 🙂 Ganda 🙂

  • I’ve also been dying to go this event since I’ve heard of it last year. Also since I’ve been dreaming of seeing hot air balloons lighted in the sky since the tangled movie. hehehehe. But now I’m convinced that it’s totally possible to go there kahit one day lang, thanks to your post. 😀

Oh and this is such a lovely idea for a Valentines Date! Sayang lang about sa last part but at least you guys enjoyed! 😀

    • I’m a fan of the tangled movie. I believe there’s another event that’s more similar to it. But I’m not sure it’s already ban or if they just added extra precautions. I’m trying to remember the exact title of that event. LOL! Baka hindi ako makatulog nito.

Yes, it’s something different. I hope we can try something new again next year. Coz usually, when Vday comes, malls and other popular destinations are jam-packed!

  • So, so jealous that you really get to see a hot air balloon in action and in person. I’ve got to see or attend this one at least once in my lifetime!!! <3

    • This event happens every year, so you still have a lot of chance! I just hope they’ll improve the overall event for the coming years. 🙂

  • Glad you guys were able to make it! You’re right that events like this don’t happen every year and time flies so fast! The one I get to attend was the 16th Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, and now it’s 20th! The admission was only 150 Php then. 🙂

Still, it’s nice that the organizers manage to make this happen every year! It’s weaving history. ^_^

    • Really? It was just 150 php back then?! That’s a significant difference with the 350 php fee this year. haha! The balloons on your post looks more appealing to me though.

  • I saw a lot of posts from this event and they are just so beautiful. Someday, I hope I can also attend to one. It also reminded me of “Up”. ❤

    • Actually, that’s the same thing I thought of when I was in the event. haha! We went there on the last day of the event. And honestly, one of the reasons I became eager to go is because of the photos I saw on facebook, IG and twitter. 😀

  • Iel

Omg I wanna experience that event too! Too bad, it’s too far plus I don’t have anyone to go with me haha. Would there be another hot air balloon event this year or once only? It’s actually my first time reading about this event because I’ve been MIA in the blogging world the past few months.

    • I’m not sure if there’s another event coming this year. But sure enough, there will be next year. 🙂 hmm. Welcome back Mariel! Now, that’s the reason why your gravatar photo looks familiar. I have to check your blog pa to confirm that it’s you. LOL!

  • Hazel Asoy

I’ve seen a lot of posts about this event. I wish I was able to attend too.

    • You can still try next year! 🙂
